CERTIFICATE U.S. CITIZENSHIP - NEW ORLEANS, 1872
THIS IS AN ORIGINAL PAPER CERTIFICATE SIGNED, SEALED AND DATED OCTOBER 22, 1872, AND IS A CERTIFICATE ADMITTING JAMES BOYLE AS A CITIZEN OF THE UNITED STATES.  IT WAS ISSUED TO JAMES BOYLE, FORMERLY A SUBJECT OF GREAT BRITAIN, BY HENRY C. DIBBLE, JUDGE OF THE EIGHTH DISTRICT COURT FOR THE PARISH OF ORLEANS, AND ENTERED BY THOMAS LYNNE, CLERK OF SAID COURT.  IT IS SIGNED BY CLERK THOMAS LYNNE AND JUDGE HENRY C. DIBBLE.  THIS JUDGE MAY BE THE SAME AS THE JUDGE HENRY CLAY DIBBLE OF ORLEANS WHO WAS A SOMEWHAT NOTORIOUS CORRUPT JUDGE, BUT I HAVE NOT DONE MUCH RESEARCH.  EXCERPT FROM THE CERTIFICATE AS FOLLOWS:

".... AND IT _____ APPEARING TO THE COURT UPON THE TESTIMONY AFORESAID, THAT HE HAS RESIDED FOR ONE YEAR AT LEAST WITHIN THE STATE OF LOUISIANA; THAT DURING THE WHOLE OF SAME TIME HE HAS BEHAVED HIMSELF AS A MAN OF GOOD MORAL CHARACTER, ATTACHED TO THE PRINCIPLES OF THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, AND WELL DISPOSED TO THE GOOD ORDER AND HAPPINESS OF THE SAME; AND IT APPEARING TO THE SATISFACTION OF THE COURT THAT THE SAID JAMES BOYLE HAS IN ALL RESPECTS FULFILLED THE REQUISITES, AND IS ENTITLED TO THE BENEFIT OF THE SAID ACTS OF CONGRESS AND THE SAID JAMES BOYLE HAVING MADE OATH OF RECORD IN THIS COURT, THAT HE WILL SUPPORT THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA; AND THAT HE DOTH ABSOLUTELY AND ENTIRELY RENOUNCE AND ABJURE ALL ALLEGIANCE AND FIDELITY TO ANY FOREIGN PRINCE, POTENTATE, STATE OR SOVEREIGNTY WHATEVER, AND PARTICULARLY TO THE QUEEN OF GREAT BRITAIN OF WHOM HE WAS A SUBJECT. IT WAS THEREUPON CONSIDERED BY THE COURT THAT THE SAID JAMES BOYLE BE ADMITTED AND HE WAS ACCORDINGLY ADMITTED BY THE SAID COURT TO BE A CITIZEN OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA...."

IT IS FRAMED UNDER GLASS WITH THE UPPER RIGHT QUARTER MISSING. OVERALL FRAMED SIZE IS APRX 18.25" X 15". THE CONDITION IS AS YOU SEE IT - IT HAS BEEN FOLDED AND THERE ARE TEARS. THERE IS A FRAMERS STAMP ON THE BACK THAT READS - GLASSERS ART SHOP, 1522 N MAIN AVE, MAR 6, 1962, NO 33194. (GLASSERS ART SHOP IS A SHOP THAT USED TO BE IN SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS).  THE GREEN EMBOSSED STAMP HAS A SYMBOL OF A PELICAN AND READS - EIGHTH DISTRICT COURT FOR THE PARISH OF ORLEANS.  A REALLY GREAT PIECE OF HISTORY !!!
