TIN FRICTION WADDLING, QUACKING DUCK - CHIEN - 1930s?
THIS IS AN OLD TIN COLORED DUCK IN GREAT CONDITION . WHEN YOU MOVE THE DUCK ALONG A SURFACE THERE ARE TWO "WHEELS" ON THE BOTTOM THAT SLIGHTLY RAISE AND LOWER MAKING THE DUCK "WADDLE" AS HE MOVES. ALSO AS HE MOVES, HIS LOWER BILL OPENS AND CLOSES AND HE EMITS A SOUND THAT I SUPPOSE IS MEANT TO BE A "QUACK". ON THE BOTTOM, THERE IS A MAKERS MARK --- THE LETTER K WITHIN A ROUND SHAPE THAT IS RATHER "COG" LOOKING. ALSO ON THE BOTTOM IT SAYS - MADE IN JAPAN, PATENT NO 368438, 401701 (IF THESE ARE U.S. PATENT NUMBERS, THEY REPRESENT DATES FROM THE 19c, SO I IMAGINE THEY MAY BE JAPANESE PATENT NUMBERS, BUT I AM NOT SURE). THIS LITTLE GUY CAME FROM THE ESTATE OF A FRIEND OF MY FAMILY WHO SAYS HE HAD IT AS A CHILD (HE WAS BORN IN 1932), SO IT MAY BE FROM THE 1930s. ON THE BOTTOM OF THE DUCK THERE ARE 2 SMALL SLIT-LIKE AREAS, AND TO ME, THEY LOOK LIKE MAYBE THERE WERE CARDBOARD FEET THERE AT ONE TIME. THERE IS JUST THE SLITS NOW. HE HAS A LITTLE BEANIE ON HIS HEAD AND A BOW TIE TOO! THE COLOR IS GREAT AND HE REALLY IS CUTE !
